PLUMMER BUILDING

Visitors have the opportunity to explore the Historical Suite, which encompasses the final offices of Drs. William J. and Charles H. Mayo. These tours are offered Monday through Friday, between 9 am and 4 pm, and are situated on the third floor of the Plummer Building.

The third floor of the Plummer Building houses the offices of Dr. Will and Dr. Charlie Mayo, as well as the sophisticated Board of Governors Room, which showcases the brothers’ diplomas and awards. Among the Historical Suite’s treasures is the 1950 Nobel Prize awarded for the discovery of cortisone.

Continuing a tradition that started in the 1950s, visitors can marvel at over 7,000 high-efficiency LED lights adorning the south-facing wall of the Plummer Building on the Mayo Clinic campus each winter. The seasonal display usually lights up around Thanksgiving and remains illuminated until New Year’s Day.
