My experience

Hotel changes rates daily. Proximity to Mayo is main advantage, but at a higher rate than other options. Parking charges are the same as clinic garages. Room, amenities, breakfast are similar to other chains, but not better

Not well cared for

Great location and friendly service but the whole hotel needs a serious face-lift. Very outdated and not particularly clean. The vents were filthy and had gross looking deodorizers in them- didn’t make us feel very clean

Mayo stay

Stayed for appointments at the Mayo Clinic. The location is great. The subway system is connected to the hotel, so if weather is bad you don’t have to deal with rain or snow. Room has very comfortable beds. No outside noise like some places we have stayed. The room needed some attention. TV remote didn’t work very well and they didn’t have another one for us to try. So, we had to battle with the remote to get it to work. The heater was very loud and rattled while running. The cover fell off a few times, so we just left it off and the rattling stopped. The door lock was very touchy and it took some work to get door open. The hotel was in the process of remodeling the breakfast area, so it wasbs t up in the restaurant. It was rather disorganized, but food was okay

Overall Good Stay

Recently spent a few days at this hotel while visiting the Mayo Clinic for my five year physical and check-up. The hotel is conveniently located close to the main Clinic buildings (Mayo and Gonda) and is linked to the Clinic as a whole through the underground “subway” system that allow you to access the Clinic without ever having to go outside (a plus during cold Minnesota winters). Check-in went smoothly, no complaints there. My room was pretty basic. Two double beds, dresser with multiple drawers, a closet, chair, large sink w/mirror, coffee maker and a small bathroom with shower/bath combo. It was far from the fanciest place that I’ve ever spent time in but it was clean, comfortable and it served its purpose. I found the beds to be comfortable and I slept well during my stay. About the only complaint that I would have (and it wouldn’t deter me from staying here again) is that the room could be a little better “lit” it was kind of dark. Can’t comment much on the daily breakfast. It was very basic, much like you would find in a roadside motel/hotel. There was a selection of cereals, fruits, yogurt, eggs, coffee, etc. it certainly wasn’t gourmet but it wasn’t horrible. They also have an exercise room and small pool, which I didn’t use. After reading several reviews, I do agree that there is a particular “smell” at the hotel. It reminds me of what a hospital normally smells like, which is understandable. The only other complaint that I would have is that parking is very limited here and the hotel garage is extremely tight. Because of the limited number of spaces, there is a good chance that you might not be able to secure a space here. In that case, you’ll have to park in the Clinic garage across the street. If so, remember to save your parking receipts...so Kahler doesn’t charge you for one of their “spaces”. Again, I found the hotel comfortable and sufficient for my purposes. I experienced nothing that would deter me from returning
